As you look over the sketch and my card, it won't take you but a second to notice that something's not quite right. Well, have I got a story for you. Earlier in the week, I interviewed for a part-time seasonal gig at a wonderful local stamp store here in Albuquerque called the The Hen House Paperie. Lo and behold, I got the job! My first day was yesterday, but I also had a design team card due. I got up in the morning and colored my images, cut them out, pulled some papers and then skipped off to my new job, happy that I'm going to be working around the very tools and supplies that bring me an immense amount of joy everyday. I was also confident that I would be able to quickly assemble my DT card when I got home, even though I knew I would be really pushing the limits of that deadline.
The shop was abuzz with activity all day and I learned so much that my brain was overflowing with new information. Many folks I knew popped in and it was fab seeing them and catching up. I was enjoying myself SOOOO MUCH that, before I knew it, I had stayed an extra 45 minutes and had cut dangerously into my DT card time. OOPS! I jumped in my truck and zoomed home, still sure I could crank that card out within a reasonable time frame.
Once home, I mumbled a greeting to Kirk and told him I needed an hour before we could leave the house and grab a bite to eat somewhere. I sat down at my desk and immediately engaged in a frenzy of cutting, glueing, glittering, sticking, and sniping! Paper was flying! If one of the cats ventured too close, they would be in danger of losing an eye! I decided I didn't like the paper I had picked out earlier, so then I commenced to digging and clawing through stacks of scraps and sheets of papers. EUREKA! I found a glittery scrap that would do the job! Then I decided it needed more pizzaz, so I started gluing anything and everything I could find to the front...more paper scraps, a piece of burlap, ribbon, a TH metal tag, a clump of cat fur! KIDDING, but who knows! I was crazed! Once the glitter settled, I sat back and checked out my card. Not too shabby! It would do.
As all this was going on, the ticking of the clock was looming in the background, and each tick loudly thumped in my head. TICK, TICK, TICK. At the same time, hubby was in the living room, trying to be patient while his stomach grumbled it's hunger protest. What a relief that I could finally load my card. As I'm putting it in the folder, my eyes start to pick up on a pattern among the DT cards already in there...OH, NO!!! IT'S A SKETCH! The challenge, the week of a release, is ALWAYS a sketch! DUH!!! You would think that after a year, I would start to remember this each month, but NO! Anyway, that's why my card is a super loosey goosey, cross-eyed interpretation of the sketch. Please forgive :)
