My Next Class at China Phoenix 2!

Hey, all!  Welcome back!  Today I want to share one of two cards I will be teaching at China Phoenix 2 on December 15th at 1:00pm.  Both cards will feature lots of Tim Holtz dies, tools, and techniques, which I just LOVE!

Do you ever start to pile stuff onto a card and find you can't help but keep adding more.  Yes, I've heard the adage "Less is more", but apparently I have no concept of what that means.  Especially where this card is concerned, LOL!

I started by creating a fun splashy background using Distress Inks in last seasons winter colors...Iced Spruce, Evergreen Bough, and Fired Brick.  Oops, I should have used Festive Berries to make the trio complete, but Fired Brick is my absolute favorite red in the Distress line.  I swiped these colors onto a craft sheet and misted generously with water to form little droplets of diluted ink, then I laid my white paper panel down and gave it a gentle twist or two before I pulled it off the sheet.  Not too much though, as I didn't want to muddy the colors.  I went back in and dabbed up the remaining droplets so that I had lots of inky splatters on my panel.  A blast with a heat gun to set it and then I was ready to add more color.  I used the Evergreen Bough reinker and just swiped the dropper across the sheet in a swirly pattern.  I didn't even squeeze any additional color out of the dropper, more or less I just used what was on the tip.  I misted this lightly with water and laid my paper down again.  This time I didn't twist the paper, but pulled it straight up.  That's where those brighter splashes of color came from.  I LOVE creating backgrounds with the Distress Line!  The possibilities are endless!

Next, I just PILED on the die cuts and the embellishments.  There is NO WAY this card is going in an envelope...LOL!  My thought process went something like this...if one rose is good, two are better!  If two roses  are good, a clump of pinecones is better!  And so on, and so on.  Crazy, I know ;D

Anyway, this is the first of two cards I will be teaching.  If you're in or around the Albuquerque area on December 15th and feel like getting crafty, come join me!  Call Nancy at China Phoenix 2 at (505)884-8217 and she'll add your name to the roster.  I'll be back in a day or two to share the other card.  I have to make it first...LOL!  ;D

Until next time, stay crafty!

Challenge #156 at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps: Holidays!

Hey, all!  Welcome back  Did you have a wonderful Thanksgiving?  We certainly did!  Lots of family time, lots of laughter, and LOTS of good food!  What a day ;D

Today I'm back with a new challenge at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps and the ridiculously talented Elaine Hughes is our Hostess with the Mostest this week.  She's asking us to create a Christmas themed project, how perfect is that!  All of us have Christmas cards to make, so why not join this week's challenge in the process?

I'm using an adorable image from Cheryl Alger's set, Lexi's Winter Fun.  Isn't Lexi sweet as pie?  I just love her!  Check out those awesome crocheted flowers!  My sister made them for me as I was making this card.  Mom drove up from Las Cruces for Thanksgiving so we had a craftin' day at my house.  Mom and I made cards and I told Trissi she had to crochet me 15 flowers before she could leave.  Cruel, I know...LOL!  Anyway, I think she cranked out 6, which I gladly took, including the 2 I used on my card :)  I'm expecting a stocking full for Christmas...she better get started!  HAHA!

Anywho, create a holiday themed card and join this week's challenge.  You might be randomly selected to win the image Elaine used on her fabulous card!

One more thing...visit the Kraftin' Kimmie shop and check out all the sale stamps!  Lots of stuff is being retired so this might be your last chance to snatch up some of these fabulous images.  DON'T delay!

Okay, that's it for me!  Until next time, stay krafty!

As you look over the sketch and my card, it won't take you but a second to notice that something's not quite right.  Well, have I got a story for you.  Earlier in the week, I interviewed for a part-time seasonal gig at a wonderful local stamp store here in Albuquerque called the The Hen House Paperie.  Lo and behold, I got the job!  My first day was yesterday, but I also had a design team card due.  I got up in the morning and colored my images, cut them out, pulled some papers and then skipped off to my new job, happy that I'm going to be working around the very tools and supplies that bring me an immense amount of joy everyday.  I was also confident that I would be able to quickly assemble my DT card when I got home, even though I knew I would be really pushing the limits of that deadline.

The shop was abuzz with activity all day and I learned so much that my brain was overflowing with new information.  Many folks I knew popped in and it was fab seeing them and catching up.  I was enjoying myself SOOOO MUCH that, before I knew it, I had stayed an extra 45 minutes and had cut dangerously into my DT card time.  OOPS!  I jumped in my truck and zoomed home, still sure I could crank that card out within a reasonable time frame.

Once home, I mumbled a greeting to Kirk and told him I needed an hour before we could leave the house and grab a bite to eat somewhere.  I sat down at my desk and immediately engaged in a frenzy of cutting, glueing, glittering, sticking, and sniping!  Paper was flying!  If one of the cats ventured too close, they would be in danger of losing an eye!  I decided I didn't like the paper I had picked out earlier, so then I commenced to digging and clawing through stacks of scraps and sheets of papers.  EUREKA!  I found a glittery scrap that would do the job!  Then I decided it needed more pizzaz, so I started gluing anything and everything I could find to the front...more paper scraps, a piece of burlap, ribbon, a TH metal tag, a clump of cat fur!  KIDDING, but who knows!  I was crazed!  Once the glitter settled, I sat back and checked out my card.  Not too shabby!  It would do.

As all this was going on, the ticking of the clock was looming in the background, and each tick loudly thumped in my head.  TICK, TICK, TICK.  At the same time, hubby was in the living room, trying to be patient while his stomach grumbled it's hunger protest.  What a relief that I could finally load my card. As I'm putting it in the folder, my eyes start to pick up on a pattern among the DT cards already in there...OH, NO!!!  IT'S A SKETCH!  The challenge, the week of a release, is ALWAYS a sketch!  DUH!!!  You would think that after a year, I would start to remember this each month, but NO!  Anyway, that's why my card is a super loosey goosey, cross-eyed interpretation of the sketch.  Please forgive :)

Hey, all!  Welcome back!  This week's challenge at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps is brought to you by the uber fabulous Kerry Johnson and she is tasking us with using a Food or Drink Themed Image on our cards.  Sounds a bit tricky, doesn't it?  However, take a peek at all of the KKS images in the Kraftin' Kimmie Shop that center around food or drink and you will quickly see that it's really not a problem AT ALL...LOL!  In fact, you will have a tough time narrowing it down to just one ;D

After combing through all of my images a dozen times and changing my mind about 2 dozen times, I finally settled on Pippa Popcorn.  She's just so happy and that pretty much conveys how I feel about a big ol' tub of popcorn, myself.  I colored Pippa with Copics and gave her a fun little background treatment with some dots, and blues, and grays.  She was fun to color, but now I am really hankering for some movie popcorn!  Hmmm...maybe Kirk and I should go check out that new James Bond flick tonight ;D

BUT, I digress!  Join the challenge this week and you might be randomly selected to receive the wonderful image that Kerry used on her card!  Also, don't forget to check out the Frugal Friday Specials by clicking on the Deals, Deals, Deals section in the shop.  They are all winter themed and "must haves" for your stamping arsenal.

Catch ya next week with LOTS of new stuff!  Until then, stay krafty!

Challenge #153 at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps: Create Your Own Background

Hey, all!  Welcome back!  Time for a new challenge at Krafty Kimmie Stamps!  This time our fabulous hostess is the one and only Melanie Holtz.  Melanie has a good one for us...create a background using any technique.  Melanie drew her background by hand and it looks AMAZING!  I decided to go simple, so I swiped a couple of lighter tone Distress Ink pads across a white dies and misted it generously with water.  Let it dry and you have a simple background.

I used a new image on my card and he comes from the Snow Day Lucas set. While you're milling about the Kraftin' Kimmie Shop, be sure to check out the Frugal Friday Specials...6 fabulous designs at a deep, deep discount!  Also, the Gimmee Kimmee kits are on sale through Sunday, so NOW is the time to pick them up!

Alrighty, I'm going to keep this post short, until next time...stay krafty!
