Black Friday Challenge at Bombshell Stamps!!

Hola, fellow bloggers! Welcome back! It's great to see you again. Do come in and sit a spell ;)

I have a little bit of Bombshell bliss to share with you today. First of all, do you like free stamps? Of course you do! We all do! Right now we have a Follow That Blog contest going on a the Bombshell Stamps Blog and it's really quite easy to enter. Here's the deets:
  • Sign up to follow the Bombshell Stamps Blog
  • Post about the contest on your personal blog
  • If you're already a follower, not to worry, just add the post regarding the contest to your personal blog and you're good to go!
You have until December 20th to sign up to follow the blog. After that, we will randomly select a winner and that person will be able to choose 2 Bombshell Stamp Sets...one rubber set and one digi set! New sets have recently been released, so now is the time to beef up your Bombshell arsenal of images!

Be sure to check the blog frequently for new challenges and chances to win prizes, the latest and greatest Bombshell news, and lots of inspiring creations from the Bombshell DT (also known as the Bombshells)! Tell your friends about the blog...we want to share the love with everyone!

Now, onto the Black Friday Challenge hosted by Ms. November, Mary Harmon. Mary has come up with an awesome challenge perfect for this holiday season. What does Black Friday mean to you? Make it a color challenge if you like, or create a shopping themed project, or as Mary pointed out, perhaps you'll create something regarding a downward swing in the stock market...LOL! Not that a downward swing in the stock market is humorous, but I love that Mary has covered all aspects ;D

I was inspired by the color black and decided to use one of the new heart images that was released just a few months ago. I picked up both sets, because I love the images so much, but the heart I chose is from the Sacred Heart Art set. I paired my heart with wings from the Sacred Heart set, which is a set that has been around a while, but it is timeless. All of these images are available in the shop. Get some now! OR if you live in or around the Albuquerque, NM area, stop by China Phoenix 2. If Nancy doesn't have them in stock, she is always happy to order them.

Nothing complicated about my card. I colored the images with Copics and used a fair amount of glitter glue to give the wings some pizzaz. I found some interesting hardware in a drawer filled with card making odds and ends, and decided to use them. I don't even know what they're called, but they're cool. I wrapped some twine around them once I had them on the card. Sorry, I wish I had a name for them :( I know! How about Metal Thingies ;D Anyway, I wrapped twine around the Metal Thingies and tied a crude bow. That was pretty much it.

Please swing by the blog to see all of the cool stuff the Bombshells came up with. There are some amazing creations! Also, you've got roughly two weeks to submit your own Black Friday Challenge card. You'll find a linky tool at the bottom of the Black Friday Challenge post, so be sure to enter. There are prizes to be had! AND don't forget to sign up to follow! That's it for now, come back tomorrow and I'll have a Christmas card for you. Stay crafty!

Introducing the Krash Kittenz by Kenny K!!!

Is it Sunday already? WOW! Where did the time go? I didn't mean to take the week off from blogging, but apparently that's what happened. I must have overdosed on turkey and went into a trytophan coma. That is certainly the only explanation I can muster. Never-the-less, I hope your holiday was fabulous! We stuffed ourselves with great food and then headed to the movies to catch the new Harry Potter flick. If you want to see what was on our T-day plate, swing by my husband's blog for a few pics and the details. I can't tell you if the movie was good or bad, because I snoozed through the first half. Bummer!

Today is a special day, because Kenny K is officially releasing the Krash Kittenz and they all have new names! That means that 12 lucky winners will receive the digi image of the kitten they named, plus two additional images! To see the winners, visit Donna's blog here. Now, without further ado, let me introduce you to the new Krash Kittenz!

A. Racy Roxie
B. Carmen Electrafying
C. Honey Sparks
D. Cheyenne
E. Pitstop Penny
F. Harley Ryder
G. Mae Western
H. Heidi Hot Rod
I. Megan Foxy

L. Maggie Mayhem

I used Mae Western on my card and she is a stunner! I couldn't resist all that fabulous hair that was just beckoning for some attention from my Copics. All of these images sizzle and I can't wait to get them colored up. They're officially available in the Kenny K Download shop, so be sure to swing by and pick out a few. Valentine's Day is right around the corner...wouldn't these be great for that special someone?!

Before I forget...there is another challenge happening this week and Team A is asking YOU to keep it In the Pink. The color pink is the theme, so grab your Kenny K images and whip up something fabulous and you might win your choice of 5 Kenny K digis! That is an amazing prize and with all of these smoking new images being added, what a great way to add to your collection! Now, head over to Kenny K's Krafty Girlz Challenge blog and check out all the awesome eye-candy my teammates whipped up with the new images! You don't want to miss these gorgeous samples!

Oh, no you didn't...!!!

...and so it begins. The war of the camera. You see, my husband has just started his own blog about barbecuing, grilling...in general, just cooking damn good food. He is a mighty fine cook, has an adventurous palette, and loves to rummage around in the spice cabinet for new combos, certain to bring any meal alive with sizzle and zing. That's not my beef (I made a funny...hahaha!), he can cook for me breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I would be perfectly fine with that...who wouldn't? My problem is...the camera.

I take pictures of cards. I take them in a controlled environment and I usually don't have to worry about getting a great first shot, because there is some hungry person breathing down my neck in the background waiting to physically devour my creation. By the way, that hungry person is usually me. In other words, when photographing food, there is no opportunity to go back in for more photos if the first group doesn't turn out, because that tasty culinary delight will soon enough be gone! Poof! Nada! Zip! CHOMP!

In light of that challenge, Kirk has been doing a little Internet recon, and a bunch of trial and error picture taking to improve his food photos. AND...he's doing a great job! BUT, in the process, settings get changed on the camera and totally screw up MY PHOTOS! For instance, my colors have been coming out wonky (it's a word, look it up. Actually, nevermind, I'm pretty sure it's not.), especially the reds. I have, seriously, taken approximately 300 hundred photos of the same card tonight and each time the reds look odd. A bit off. Finally, I notice on the camera that the Red Eye Correction setting has been turned on. It literally takes 10 steps to get to the Red Eye Correction setting, so he must have gone there intentionally. And why?! I haven't the foggiest, I guess to prevent red eye from showing up on all that food he's cooking, or perhaps he thought it said Rib Eye instead of Red Eye...who knows! Other than potatoes, does food even have eyes?

Anyway, just about the time I figured that little snag out, my battery died on my camera, no doubt from all this use, not only on my end, but Kirk's, too. So now I am waiting around for it to charge so I can take more pictures of the same card and try to figure out what other settings have been changed.

*******WAITING********WAITING*********WAITING********WAITING******

Okay, it's charged enough, let's see what we've got. Well, this is much better. Phew!

Let's move on, shall we? The image I used on my card is a brand new release from Bombshell Stamps and I think she's a beauty! Bombshell has 3 new sets available and the Design Team has some inspiring creations over on the Bombshell Blog that will certainly entice you. Be sure to check them out!

Thanks for your patience today. I appreciate the virtual ear ;D

Sample #2 for my December 4th card class at CP2...

Hello, everybody! I know I said I would be back yesterday, but guess what! I tried looking for my "angel" stamp only to discover that I DO NOT own it! Ackkk!!! Yes, I absolutely did launch into a full-fledge temper tantrum and it was not pretty and it took a good chunk out of my day :( Instead I had to improvise. I own so many Stampotique images, I have a rather good-sized box dedicated to just housing them. In fact, that box is overflowing and they probably need a new home to accommodate their growing family, but that will have to wait.

I ended up using an image called Winter and adding some Bombshell Stamp wings to her to give her a goth angel look. I used lots of the same techniques on this card that I used on the other card, so I won't bore you to death with the details. I did, however, make the gray felt flower, which I just love.

I'm going to keep this post short, 'cuz, DANG it's late! ***yawn*** Nighty-night!

Sample #1 for my December 4th card class at CP2...

Hello, all! Thanks for coming back. I always appreciate it when you stop by ;D I am teaching another card class at CP2 on December 4th, so I have been working on more samples. Last year I taught a Twisted Christmas card class using some of my favorite images from Stampotique. These cards were my transition cards between the Halloween and Christmas holidays. They were fun and humorous with a bit of holiday cheer sprinkled in for good measure. You can see them here and here.

This year, after making a few traditional holiday cards, I was again, in the mood to break out some of the newer images by Stampotique and create something a bit edgy. These are not so much humorous as they are dark and elegant. I know, I'm a bit weird, but I follow lots of your blogs, so I know there are quite a few of you out there that "get me", so you know what I'm talking about.

I created card number one using Angelboy. There was not a lot to color on this image, so I spent most of my time on his wings, which I did using my Copics in several shades of Cool Gray. It maybe hard to see this in the photos. I also tried my hand at one of those grunge paper roses that Tim Holtz featured during his 12 Tags of Christmas last year. Certainly it did not turn out like his, but I am very happy with it, just the same. I created the background using Tim's ('cuz we're first name buddies) Baroque Alterations Die. I stamped and embossed his snowflakes on the panel using clear embossing powder. I proceeded to lay down a symphony of Distress Inks on a craft sheet (Faded Jeans, Peeled Paint, Pumice, and Black Soot) and mist them with water. I laid my panel down to pick up all that inky goodness and I knew I was having a good time when I looked down and noticed that my hands were covered with this goth rainbow of colors. I was a happy girl ;D I used my heat gun to dry the panels and then went back to my craft sheet to pick up the remaining ink. Nary a drop was wasted! Nary...? How do you spell that? My autocorrect didn't try to fix it, so I guess I'm okay. Unless it's confused and just gave me a spelling "pass" this go round...who knows. I finished by adding lots of glitter glue in Diamond to the die cut panel, Angelboy's wings, and to my grunge rose. On the inside I am going to add a sentiment by Stampers Anonymous that reads, "I saw an angel in the marble and carved until I set him free." It's one of my favorites.

I want to use the, oh so, elegant Angel for card number two, but I'm not sure if I even own her. I'm pretty sure I do, but you never know. If I don't, I can guarantee that I will be having a full blown, throw myself onto the floor, flailing arms and legs, temper tantrum tomorrow morning. Let's hope it doesn't come to that ;D

See you in the manana!

I have this card in a couple of challenges:

New Christmas Card Class at CP2 on Nov 20th

I'm back with card number 2 as promised! This is the second card I will be teaching at CP2 as part of my Christmas Card Class for November 20th.

Again, not much stamping on this card. The focus is the Tim Holtz Caged Bird Alteration die, which was part of an earlier release, but I absolutely love it! It is so versatile. You may recall that I had used it and put some fab Bombshell Skullies in it previously. No skullies this time, but you know, that might not be a half bad idea. Skullies need Christmas, too ;D I embossed the bird cage with the music paper texture fade and I embossed the bird with that awesome snowflake fade that I "acquired" from Kit...hehe! I painted the bird cage with Gold Adirondack acrylic paint and then sponged on Distress Ink in Walnut Stain to bring out some of that fab texture. I'm really happy with the shabby chic look of the bird. I painted him with 2 coats of Snow Cap Adirondack acrylic paint and then sponged on lots of Distress Ink in Vintage Photo to really highlight those snowflakes. I also gave him a pretty heavy coat around the edges because it was such a lovely contrast to the Snow Cap and the finished result had a nice vintage look to it. I'll need to remember that combo.

No Christmas card is complete without glitter, so I cut out some die cut snowflakes in cream cardstock, added some Vintage Photo, and then glittered them up with Diamond glitter glue to make them shine. I randomly added these to the cage and behind Mr. Bird. I wish I could say that I made that beautiful flower, but alas, I did not. It's by Bo Bunny and the package came with 8 of them on a strip so I had to buy all they had, which was only 2 packages, but oh how I wish they had had more...! Lots of ribbon and leaves finish this card off. I really love how it turned out. I didn't even miss the fact that it had minimal stamping and there was no Copic coloring. What a switch for me ;D It was a nice break, but next card class...watch out! You better have those ink pads primed and ready to work...LOL!

Have yourself a swell weekend ;D

New Christmas Card Class at CP2 on Nov 20th

Hello, all! The weekend has snuck up on us and I have no idea where the week went. Seems like my "to do" list is still pretty long, so not sure how I'm going to catch up. I was able to create a couple of class samples for a class I am having on November 20th at CP2. Talk about waiting until the last minute.

Anyway, I am pretty pleased with how these two cards turned out. There is limited stamping on them, which is just crazy, but the focal points are die cuts punched from Grungeboard using Tim Holtz' Alteration dies. I added color with Distress Inks and acrylic paints. I really wanted to get my hands on Reindeer Flight, in fact I was obsessing about it. Mom was even going to drop her die in the mail to me, but as luck would have it, I received a call from an angel yesterday (Nancy...LOL!) to let me know that a sweet little box from Ranger had arrived, filled to the brim with Alteration goodness. YIPPEE!! I literally jumped in my truck and flew down to the shop. I know I was speeding, but luckily I didn't get stopped, because I would have been forced to outrun that "cop"per, and a judge might not understand my unhealthy need for craft tools! If you get stopped for DWI in NM you have to have an interlock device installed on your car, and to start it, you have to blow into it to test your blood alcohol levels. BUT, what about an out of control stamp addiction? Would they check my fingers for ink? My hair for paper shrapnel? My lungs for glitter?

Fortunately, I made it to the shop without any run ins with the law and I managed to pick up a nice little bundle of Alteration dies and fades including Reindeer Flight, which was the root of my crazed behavior. When I arrived at the shop, there it was, waiting for me, a bright white light shone down upon it from the heavens and I swear I heard a choir of angels sing...LOL!

Not only was I snatching and grabbing anything I could get my hands on, but I was also shopping out of other folks baskets. I stole a Snowflake and Snowman fade right out of Kit's basket! I showed an interest in it and she was immediately kind enough to offer it to me. I hemmed and hawed around saying I would never do that to her, but in the end, the set went home with me! Thank you Kit ;D I tell you, if that's not an addiction, I don't know what is! My name is Cheryl and I am powerless over anything with Tim Holtz' name on it!

Well, enough of that...I ended up making two cards with the dies and fades. On the first one, I used Reindeer Flight and Pine Tree, plus that awesome snowflake fade that Kit allowed me to swindle her out of ;D I painted the deer with Pearl acrylic paint by Adirondack and I sponged Peeled Paint Distress Ink on the tree. I added some pearl to the tree, as well, and followed that with a good coat of glitter glue in Frosted Lace. I embossed the snowflake pattern onto a lovely piece of patterned paper by Basic Grey from the Jovial line and then sanded the images to make them stand out. A few embellishments and that was all she wrote. I had a great time making this card and an even better time making the card I will be featuring tomorrow. Come back and check it out. I promise I'll post it ;D Hope your weekend is off to a fabulous start!

I'm in a Kenny K. state of mind...

Hello, everyone! Welcome to a new week. I hope yours has started off great! I'm in a Kenny K. state of mind, so I decided to do another Christmas card, this time using Miss Fortune. Kenny has a new Christmas accessory pack out that allows you to turn almost any of the images into Christmas images. I didn't use it this time, but I really like it, so I'm sure some elements out of that set will be turning up in my cards very soon.

I colored up Miss Fortune with my Copics and then couldn't help but add red Spica to her bodice. You can see some of the glittery goodness in one of my pics. I'm also on a Giant Scallops kick right now and have been adding these fab die cuts to everything. I just love them!

I'm going to keep this post short, but before I go, I want to let everyone know that my husband has started a blog of his own. Yep, my hubby is a blogger ;D He is an amazing cook and his blog focuses on his adventures in grilling. He grills year round and I am the lucky taste tester. Let me tell you, this boy can cook! Check out his blog at AlbuKirky BBQ & Other Stuff. Today's post features the homemade green chili turkey sausage he made this morning. It was divine! Seriously drool-worthy ;D

Okay, ta ta for now! Catch you tomorrow ;D

A new challenge and a new contest at Kenny K!

Hello, everyone! Did you enjoy that extra hour of sleep this morning? Now this is my kind of time change ;D

It's Sunday, so that means it's time for a new challenge at Kenny K. This week, the challenge theme is Don't Be a Square. Make anything you want, but stay away from a square card. I chose to go with my Labels 8 Spellbinders die cut and added a circle, as well. It seemed to be a pretty good spot to showcase my Santa. I love these Christmas images! AND...have you checked out the recently released Dude Images? They are awesome, too! Kenny keeps putting out more and more fabulous images, it's making my head spin! I just can't get enough!

Speaking of which...here's a sneak peek at the new ones coming out in a few weeks. They are called the Krash Kittenz and this litter of kittenz need names! Come up with names for each of these beauties and the best ones will be selected. The names should be fun and playful, and represent the personality of each image, reminiscent of how the names were used for the Gothik Angelz. There will be 12 winners. Each winner will win a free digi image of the kitten they named and their choice of 2 additional digi images. The contest will run from November 7th through November 21st. Visit our fearless leader's, Donna's blog at Bearly Mine Crafts for all the contest details. She has a linky tool on her site where you can add your link to your blog post announcing your entries. This is going to be crazy fun!

Don't forget, the winner of the weekly challenge will receive their choice of 5 digi images! Looks like there are lots of fabulous ways to win this week! Head on over to the challenge blog to see what incredible creations the DT has waiting for you and don't forget to do a little shopping at Kenny K's Download site!

Another rosette card?

Hey, all! It's finally the weekend! Hopefully good things are in store for everyone. I decided to make a card with the rosette I featured yesterday. I love these elegant ladies by B-Line Designs. They are beautiful and so easy to color. Lots of details in the image, so it practically acts like a road map for laying down colors. It couldn't be easier. I also broke out a new die I have called Large Scallops by Sizzix. I have seen these scallops on cards all over the Internet and finally tracked down the source of all this fabulousness. The scallop and the rosette was all I really needed to finish this card off.

I am going to keep this post short as my goal was to make it to bed before midnight and I am already 15 minutes over. See you on Sunday with a new Kenny K. challenge!

Where does the time go?

Hello! I am making cards for a local boutique here in Albuquerque, Objects of Desire. I've pretty much had cards there all year round, but it seems that the cards for specific holidays sell better than all-occasion cards. I guess folks are more apt to purchase cards for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc...as opposed to cards with sentiments such as Thinking of You, Missing You, Hope You are Well, etc. Has the all-occasion card lost it's luster? What do you think?

Come to think of it, I rarely make an all-occasion card for my personal use. I, however, am a poor example to use, because I can't even seem to make birthday cards for people anymore. Dad had a birthday at the end of October, did he get a card from me? Nope. Did my father-in-law receive a Father's Day card this year? Nope. Did I manage to make and send Halloween cards to friends and family? Nope. Just sit that Worst Daughter/Daughter-In-Law/Friend Award right here in front of me, 'cuz I've earned it! It's not because I don't make cards. I make cards all the time. Almost daily. I'm just not making time to create the special cards for the folks that are important to me. I'm feeling rotten just talking about it. Instead my time is filled with creating class samples, putting class kits together, making DT cards, creating custom order cards, and making cards for Objects of Desire. Don't get me wrong, I am doing exactly what I have always wanted to do with this hobby and having a wonderful time, but I am missing more and more birthdays, holidays, etc. How about you? How do you balance it all? Do you ever miss important card making dates? Tell me I'm not the only one ;D

I digress, back to my card. This is the first of 3 Fall themed cards I am making for Objects of Desire. I am really liking the layering of images right now. I start by sponging Distress Ink on a die cut panel while it is still in the die in order to preserve a nice white border. Then I stamp a large background image on top of that, also while the panel is still in the die. Then I follow with a solid black silhouette image. My images du jour right now are from the Penny Black Brush Strokes line that were popular a few years ago. I bought tons of these when they first came out and I am just now getting them inky. They are really elegant and perfect for these cards. Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow with Fall themed card #2, but we know how that goes ;D

Also, before I go, I wanted to share the bonus rosette we will be making in my Christmas Card class at CP2 on November 13th. Simple but pretty. That's it for now, catch you later ;D

Christmas Card Class at CP2

Hey, all! Here is card #2 I will be teaching on November 13th at CP2.

This card also features a Tim Holtz rosette. You may also notice the sparkley embossed birdcages. Yes, that's right, it was time to whip out my mega monster jar of Turquoise Iridescent Super Sparkle Embossing Powder that I purchased so many moons ago from Stamp A Mania. It has to make an appearance every Christmas on some sort of card or project. I purchased an enormous 16 oz jar of it fearing I would run out, but I have yet to make even the slightest dent in it. I could practically spoon it over my cereal or into my morning coffee each day and still have enough to last me the rest of my crafting days. But, oh how I love the stuff!

I added lots of trims to this card and even managed to dig up some tiny jingle bells to make it extra festive. I've decided to add a bonus rosette to the class since they are so fun to make. This one will be adorned with a poinsettia and a couple of leaves and will look great as a topper for a package. I'll try to get a pic on the blog tomorrow. Until then, happy crafting!

Christmas Card Class at CP2

Hello! Today I am featuring 1 of 2 non-traditional Christmas cards I will be teaching in a class at CP2 on November 13th. The focus of these cards is the Tim Holtz Rosette die. Such a quick and easy way to make a rosette. I'll have all of the rosettes pre-cut for the class, but I'll bring in my Cuttle Bug and show you how to use the die in the CB.

Here's a quick tale about a paper rosette and a little furry monster. Titus, my not so tiny kitten, is obsessed with paper. He is just like his mama...LOL! Anyway, when I made my first rosette using the die, I was so proud of myself for having figured it out. I glued it together. Admired it and then left it sitting on my desk so I could grab a glass of water in the kitchen. It's important to stay hydrated when crafting ;D After only a minute or two, I look up from the sink and see Titus literally flying out of the front room, which means he has snagged something fabulous that he is pretty proud of. We spend the better part of 5 minutes re-enacting every coyote/roadrunner cartoon chase scene right there in the living room, and when I finally pin him down...you guessed it. He has his teeth perfectly clamped on my beautiful rosette. I know why God gave kitties beautiful, sweet faces...because one look into those gold/green eyes and my heart melts, completely making me forget about the rosette debacle. Must be his super power. It also helps that they are super easy to make ;D

I'll be back tomorrow with card number 2. Have a crafty day ;D

A new challenge and a new release at Kenny K!

Hello, everyone! I know I've been quiet for a bit, but I plan to get back to blogging and card making this week. Thanks for hanging in there with me!

We have a new exciting release at Kenny K and this time the theme is DUDE STUFF! It's really hard to find cool images for guy cards, but Kenny has us covered with this group of crazy awesome images. I especially love the superheroes! You have got to head over to Kenny K's Krafty Girlz Challenge blog and see what Team B has concocted using these images! Their cards are amazing and so inspiring! PLUS, there's a new challenge going on right now and the theme is Anything Goes. It doesn't get any easier than that! So get out your Kenny K's and whip up something wonderful to join the fun. The prizes have changed, so one lucky person will be randomly selected to win their choice of 5 images! Yes, you read the right...5 images! Check out all of the new stuff at the Kenny K Download shop and be sure to pick up the November Freebie while you're there!

For my card, I didn't go the guy route. I was asked to do 13 cards for a young cheerleading squad by one of my sisters coworkers. The cards are simple, but I did try to add some special touches including a bit of glitter around the main image panel, plus all of the main images are hand-colored. As simple as I tried to keep them, these puppies took a while. I really hope they like them ;D
