Sacred

Hola!  Welcome back!  Did you have a good Cinco de Mayo?  Not much celebrating going on at our house, but we did have a nice dinner.  Nothing fancy, just chicken tacos and guacamole.  It was delish! Sometimes the simplest meals are the best ones.

I'll keep this post lite.  Mother's Day is literally right around the corner (are you ready for it?), so a friend commissioned a card for his mom.  He wanted it slightly religious in nature.  I settled on using an older image by Stampington & Co. called The Saint.  I like how there are so many lovely collaged elements in such a small amount of space and I really like the shape and size of the image.  I colored it with Copics, but kept the color palette fairly simple.  I also dug around in my stash and found an ornate gold frame, which I picked up at a craft show many years ago.  The wings are from a Tim Holtz Alterations die and I painted them with Distress Crackle Paint in Picket Fence.  Do you ever have trouble with the Distress Crackle Paint being the consistency of spackle?  Every jar I have tried to use lately has been dried up, so much so, that I had throw a bottle away yesterday.  Today I was so frustrated, I reached for a brand new jar of the Picket Fence, purchased just a few weeks ago and still sealed, but it was the same way.  Arghhh!  I love you Tim Holtz, but I'm about to use my angry pirate voice on ya!  Double ARGHHH!!!

Anyway, despite my urge to throw myself on the floor of my craft room and have a good ol' fashion temper tantrum complete with the kicking and screaming,  I managed to spread the spackle-like Picket Fence goo across a couple wings.  After it dried, I got a real nice crackle on them, but at what cost?  My sanity?  Oh well, there wasn't much left of that anyway...LOL!

I hope my friend likes the card.  Better yet, I hope his mother likes the card.  Not sure if I'll be back with another post before Sunday, but if I'm not, Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there.  You make the world a better place, just by being in it :)

  5. Great card. I love that ornate frame with the crackled wings.

Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for your art. This time it was just a tiny bit of your sanity. :D

  7. Awesome. I know the crackle paint gave you fits but it sure did come out nicely on the wings. The entire card is lovely although the image has more of a queen of hearts feel to me. Made me think of the Sacred Heart of Mary.
