Good Morning! It's Friday and that's a good thing. Hopefully everyone out there in Blogland is gearing up for a fabulous 4th of July weekend. Any special plans?
Yesterday, I sat down and played with some of Kenny K's digi images and wow, are these characters fun! I don't have a whole lot of digi experience, but I have noticed in the past that the Copics tend to smear a bit on them, especially the colors I use to achieve fleshtones (E02, E00, E000). I did a little research on the ol' Information Super Highway and found out that using a workable fixative is a good remedy for that problem. I just so happened to have a can of Krylon Workable Fixative, so I printed up a bunch of digis and took them into the backyard to spray them. I let them dry overnight and then late yesterday afternoon, I started to color up All That. I started with her face and noticed no smearing whatsoever...YAY! Next, I colored her hair and her jeans. Still no smearing...double YAY! HOWEVER, my celebration was short-lived, because when I colored her shoes, shirt, and lips with Red Lipstick (R29) everything went South. It started to leave almost a sticky residue on the image. It took a long time to dry and was sticky to the touch for over an hour. It's as if the color wasn't soaking into the paper, but rather everything was just sitting on top. I couldn't even go back in and add any shading or highlights, because it was streaky and gummy, and I was afraid I would make it worse. This has never happened to me! Here's a question to all of you Copic Marker aficionados out there...have you had this problem and what did you do? HELP! I posted her anyway even though her shirt, shoes, and lips look a bit flat. I'm thinking it must have something to do with the fixative. What brands do you guys recommend?
Anywho, I still really enjoyed working with All That and I had plenty of red bottlecaps leftover from my vintage speedway card the other day, so I used them on this card, too. You know how I am, once I get on a kick, I just keep kicking...lol!
That's it for today. Maybe I will have another card for tomorrow...I haven't decided yet ;D You'll just have to come back and find out! Have a great 4th of July!
Super Sassy! Thanks for sharing with us at Stamp Something!
ReplyDeleteShe is fabulous! Had you not mentioned about the fixative problem, I never would have noticed anything...come to think of it, I don't notice anything anyway!
ReplyDeleteI don't use a fixative on digis, but I sometimes will heat set the ink after printing. Seems to help a bit. I've also resorted to smooshing my brush tip rather than blending in circular motions on the lighter colors. I don't notice any bleeding with my darker colors. HTH
Wow, your colouring is fabulous!!!! I've also been playing with Kenny's digistamps, isn't it FUN! Well done Teamie, you Rock! hugs Sharon
ReplyDeleteI looove this image ( all the images,as a matter of fact). I don't see a thing wrong with this cutie! Your coloring and shading is superb! Beautiful work!!
ReplyDeleteThis is why design teams are so important.
ReplyDeleteI look at those fab digital images and my brain goes blank. Nothing. Na-da. But then I see what YOU do with them and suddenly I GET IT!
I'm with the others that didn't notice a thing wrong with your colors. I don't use Copics *gasp* because I don't color all that often, but seeing you use them makes me want them ALL!
The problem, of course, is the printer ink. There are a couple of things you can try. You can add embossing powder as soon as the image prints then heat set. This gives a slightly raised border and prevents the ink from smearing. I personally use a laser printer for my digis. I've never had a problem with smearing this way.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you. Your coloring is outstanding!~ Great job with this digi!
just wanted to clarify...when using ink jet...you can heat set or emboss then heat set.
ReplyDeletewhen using laser...this is not necessary as the laser ink does not cause smearing.
You rocked this image, Cheryl! Of course, I knew you would! Your coloring is just outstanding and I love those bottle caps--the sentiment is PERFECT!!
ReplyDeleteI've heard about embossing the image AS SOON AS IT COMES OUT OF THE PRINTER with clear powder. But I've never tried it. I do let my digis sit overnight and that seems to be okay.
Sassy!!! Your coloring is amazing!
ReplyDeletehi cheryl
ReplyDeletewow this is very smooth girl
I like the bottle caps you have used
great coloring, this is wow
firstly congrats on the DT, cant wait to be working with you. I tend to steer clear of the ink as much as poss, particularly on the skin, (i do let my images sit all night, but still find they can smear sometimes), so i try not to go over the ink, but around it.
ReplyDeleteIf I read this correct, you are also saying your copic colour is sitting and gumming up.. i find this with some of the copic numbers, E18/E19... but not others? I cant work that out either lol... so no help sorry.. I just am a tad more light handed with these numbers.. (it doesnt help much thou). also leaves a shiney finish for some reason.
