A New Challenge at Copic Creations: Grass/Landscape

Hey, there!  I hope your weekend was grand!  I don't mean to brag, but mine was pretty great.  I spent Saturday afternoon with a group of talented ladies who were gracious enough to share a few hours with me playing with Copics.  I want to thank you all for carving out some time in your busy schedules for taking my class.  It's always a pleasure.  Later on, we went to dinner with friends and had a wonderful evening enjoying live jazz music, delicious food, and great company on the patio of a fab restaurant in town.  The perfect ending for a perfect day :)

Speaking of Copics, there's a new challenge beginning today at Copic Creations.  It's all about adding grass and landscaping to your images.  This challenge is sponsored by Lili of the Valley Stamps.  They have some beautiful designs that you will definitely want to check out.  I used Lucky Cats for my card.  Aren't these little fuzzy characters cute as buttons!  I love kitties so this image really grabbed my attention.

I added a bit of ground underneath the image by laying down E31 for some shadow under the kittens and the horseshoe.  Then I decided to further define the horizon by adding just a wee bit of E37.  I also further deepened the shadows by adding E37 under the images, but really only a scant line.  I blended this out by adding just a touch more E31, but I was really light handed, as this color can get really dark very quickly.  Finally, to soften the colors I added a generous coat of E50 over the E31 and E37.  A few randomly placed dots using all 3 colors gives the illusion of dirt or gravel.

For my grass, a few random and haphazard strokes of G20, G21, G24, and G94 in a variety of lengths is all it took to create fun little verdant clumps.  I started with G20, which is very light, but I laid it down as sort of a guide for where I wanted to place my clumps of grass.  Then working my way from light to dark, I added strokes of each color.  I have to confess...I think drawing grass might be my new favorite thing!

Why not join the challenge this go round?  You've got almost two full weeks to create a card and add grass and/or landscaping to it with your Copics.  Check out the design team inspiration bubbling over at the Copic Creations blog.  My design teammates have really outdone themselves, so get over there right now and take a look!

I'll be back tomorrow with something I've never tried before ;D  Do come back and check it out!  Until then, stay crafty!

  7. I forgot to mention that I love all those kitties.... I so want to be a crazy old cat lady when I grow up, though I likely fit part of that description already.
